FAQs of Wiegand Keypad and Tag Reader

1. What Wiegand output formats does this reader support?

This reader supports a very wide range of Wiegand output formats, including Wiegand 26 through 44 bits, as well as 56 and 58 bits. The specific format (e.g., 26-bit, 34-bit, 56-bit) should be configured to match your access control panel's input requirements. The default format is typically Wiegand 26-bit, which is the industry standard and accepted by nearly all access control systems. This broad compatibility ensures the reader can work with both legacy systems and modern controllers requiring longer bit lengths for higher security credentials.

2. How does the reader transmit keypad PIN entries?

The programmable keypad can transmit PIN entries in three different modes: 4-bit, 8-bit, or virtual card number format.
>4-bit Transmission: Each key press is sent immediately as a 4-bit data packet.
>8-bit Transmission: Each key press is sent as an 8-bit (ASCII) data packet.
>Virtual Card Number Format: The entire entered PIN code (4-6 digits) is combined into a fixed-length string that mimics a card number, often using a 10-digit virtual card number format

3.Does the reader have any anti-tamper protection?

Yes. This reader features an integrated tamper protection mechanism. It is equipped with a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) on the backlight keyboard, which acts as an anti-tamper sensor. If the glass panel is forcibly removed or the reader is disassembled from its mounting surface, the LDR detects the change in light exposure and can trigger an alarm output to the connected controller, alerting the security system of a potential tampering attempt. This makes the reader suitable for high-security installations where physical intrusion attempts must be detected.

4. What is the construction material, and is it durable for outdoor use?

The reader is constructed with a metal case (zinc-alloy enclosure) combined with a tamper-resistant glass panel. This combination provides excellent durability against physical impact and vandalism. The zinc-alloy enclosure is typically powder-coated for additional protection against corrosion.
